MOCK INTERVIEW EVENTS

ENGAGE IN MOCK INTERVIEWS WITH PARTICPANTS IN OUR PROGRAM

Sessions occur in July (no longer accepting volunteers)

STL Youth Jobs mock interview events allow program participants to apply the skills they have learned in a safe setting, in conversation with professionals from a range of fields and industries.

Participants value this time to practice talking about their talents and interests, and volunteers tell us how much they enjoy talking with St. Louis youth about their career goals and aspirations.

The full events feature guest speakers and elevator pitch workshops. Volunteers are needed for the one-hour interview portion in the afternoon. Volunteers will be provided with interview questions and feedback sheets to provide encouragement and constructive criticism to interviewees. Contact courtney@stlyouthjobs.org for more details on dates/times/locations or sign up below!

Professional Development series

share your area of expertise in a professional development session

Sessions occur June - August (no longer accepting volunteers)

As part of our program model, we provide optional (virtual) professional development sessions to youth participants. If there is a topic that you would like to present on, we would love to have you as a guest speaker. We invite every youth participant to attend these events where they can learn more topics such as financial management, specific job industries and career pathways, mental health, and more.

The sessions are typically one hour long on Zoom, including time for interactive activities and Q&A at the end. In-person sessions hosted at your organization are also a possibility. Each session typically has between 20-40 youth participants (ages 14-24). Topics/industries could include, but are not limited to:

  • Agriculture and forestry

  • Animal care

  • Arts, entertainment, and recreation

  • Beauty and cosmetics

  • Building healthy life habits

  • Construction and manufacturing

  • Education and health services

  • Entrepreneurship and owning a business

  • Financial literacy and credit building (home buying, insurance, student loans, retirement planning)

  • Human and social services

  • Human resources and people solutions

  • Marketing

  • Mental health

  • Public health

  • Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)

Job Readiness or Financial empowerment training

facilitate one or multiple of our required training sessions

Sessions occur April - August (no longer accepting volunteers)

STL Youth Jobs’ summer participants (ages 14-24) are required to participate in Job Readiness (JRT) and Financial Empowerment Training (FET) prior to the start of their employment. STL Youth Jobs is looking for volunteers to present JRT & FET materials in a series of trainings held April through August. Trainings are delivered in small groups twice weekly (weekday evenings and on Saturdays) at our provider partners’ locations and typically last four hours for JRT and two hours for FET. Volunteers for this opportunity are invited to assist with the curation of training materials, if desired.

career SHADOWING

hOST DISCOVER YOU PARTICIPANTS AT YOUR ORGANIZATION

Sessions occur in June & July (no longer accepting volunteers)

The Discover You program for 14- and 15-year-olds provides job readiness training and career exploration for a younger age group who are just starting in the world of work. In addition to classroom-style training sessions in soft skills development, participants also participate in career shadowing visits at a variety of businesses and organizations to learn about the range of roles within that industry.

STL Youth Jobs is looking for businesses and organizations that are willing to offer a shadowing opportunity for these participants. Career shadowing opportunities typically last about three hours and should include a tour, hands-on activity, and informational session with multiple professionals represented.
